untitled poem by Maria Atallah

untitled poem by Maria Atallah

the polluted waters of Byblos
will be my
resting place.
history chokes
& i follow its path –
envious ruins of gold,
a tribute to open skulls
from which i used to sip
wine.
the past does not love me enough
to let me drown.

Maria Atallah is 17 and she lives in Beirut with two birds.  You can find her at theredpelican.tumblr.com
