Submissions for our Sappho tribute issue are now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted — you will be hearing from us soon.
General submissions are closed.
We appreciate you considering sharing your work with us! We publish four issues a year: February, June, October, and December. These issues will include solid poetry, short prose (such as prose-poems and flash fiction), artwork, and photography. We seek to share great art with the world — we are drawn to what resonates, what makes us question our surroundings, what surprises us, what echoes within long after we’re finished reading.
February issue – January 1
June issue – May 1
October issue – September 1
December issue – November 1
To be considered for an issue, you should submit before/by the deadline. For submissions received after the deadline, you will be considered for the following issue.
We are happy to consider previously published work. If your piece has appeared elsewhere, please provide the title of the publication or book in which it has appeared so we can give credit. Original work published on your personal blog or Tumblr is accepted.
Please email all submissions to: firstname.lastname@example.org. In a separate document, or in the body of your email, please include a brief bio (no more than 200 words). If you do not provide a bio, we will indicate this when we publish your work. Please do not put your name or any other identifiable information on the submission document itself. We can no longer accept submissions via Google Docs.
Submit 3-6 poems in a single document (one poem per page). Longer poems (over 50 lines) will be considered. We accept many styles, including experimental, visual, & poems-in-translation (original version & English version required). (.doc, .docx or .pdf)
Submit no more than 5 works of flash fiction (up to 1,000 words) or 3-5 prose-poems (up to 60 lines). (.doc, .docx or .pdf)
Submit up to 10 pieces of any style, medium, or content. (.png or .jpeg)
Submit up to 10 photographs. (.png or .jpeg)
For normal submissions, please allow for up to a month. If it has been longer than a month, feel free to query about the status of your submission by sending an email to email@example.com.
For faster responses, please consider donating here. If you choose to donate (any amount), please indicate the name under which the donation was made. We will get back to you within ten days.
We will make every effort to provide feedback with our responses. Sometimes, however, we run out of space for an issue or it’s simply not our preferred content. We hope to grow our community of writers by working closely with you and engaging in a dialogue where possible.
Should we select your piece(s) for an issue, all rights will revert to the author following publication and we ask that you credit Figroot Press when appropriate. By agreeing to allow us to publish your work, you grant Figroot Press one-time electronic rights & print publishing rights, except in the case of special anthologies, at which time you will be separately contacted by our editorial staff. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us if your piece is accepted elsewhere. In the case of an accepted piece in a simultaneous submission, we will likely defer to the other party so as not to interfere with their publishing requirements.
