Good news! CBSE introduces live fitness classes for students bored at home

The coronavirus lockdown has been extended till May 03. Kids, much like adults have been locked up inside homes. With classes, exams being delayed and new sessions put on hold, it has been challenging for parents to keep their kids occupied inside the four walls.

More so, with the present state of affairs, there might be a long wait before schools are actually reopened.

Keeping this in mind, the country’s leading educational board, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has now introduced innovative virtual fitness-themed classes for school going students to keep them busy and to also encourage them to remain physically active during times like this. The project has been made in collaboration with the Fit India movement so that kids maintain an “active and sustainable lifestyle” from their younger days.

Special classes, which started today (April 15) have been introduced with focus on holistic development and fitness. The classes, which happen at 9:30 a.m. every morning will continue for a month’s time and broadcast on major social media channels, including Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

In the past, to encourage physical wellness, CBSE came up with a plan to introduce a compulsory ‘sports period’ in schools across the country.

What does the course entail?

The first-of-a-kind initiative introduced in the curriculum currently covers a wide range of topic, such as Nutrition, Yoga and Meditation, Exercises. There are also simple classes which talk about immunity-boosting tips from the Ministry of AYUSH, which are quite helpful during the season.

Praising the benefits of conducting such classes, the Board said, “Objective of these sessions will be to help children stay fit and healthy while pursuing online classes as well as help them to cultivate a sustainable and active lifestyle right from their younger days”.

The educational board has also roped in renowned wellness experts and nutritionists to guide students through including famed dieticians and emotional wellness coaches.

This is not the first such initiative taken in the recent days. Delhi government, which conducts the very famous “Happiness Classes” for students is now offering classes via telephone and virtually as well so that kids and parents remain mindful during testing times.
